COLOURFUL  ROMSEY

C.  1950  -  THE  HORSE  AND  JOCKEY

Horse and Jockey public house

The Horse and Jockey seems to have been one of the many Romsey pubs that evolved as a result of the growth of the coaching trade in the mid 18th century-although the building could be much older. The old and very large pub sign was fixed high on the side of the wall where it could be seen at some distance by travellers coming down Pauncefoot Hill. (See first picture below) The building is now a restaurant, Casa Bodega. As from summer 2008 it has now been renamed The Cromwell Arms.

If you are interested in the pubs and inns of Romsey, the book, So Drunk He Must Have Been To Romsey, published by the LTVAS can be purchased from the Visitor Centre
