Sceptre House, The Sceptre public house
The Sceptre only lasted for 100 years from 1871 to 1972. It was the last new pub to be built in the town. The wall of this Victorian corner building has bunches of grapes modelled on it; they look most pleasing when freshly painted.

Kings Head public house
Part of this old establishment is Tudor. Records of this building date from the 18th century when the town was growing by the trade brought by the new turnpike roads. For many years there was a hidden room in the Kings Head, and this was reached through a door in a fire place and up a flight of stairs. The building is now Berties Restaurant.
